Headshots in the cafe
I’m a hugger so it was strange meeting Caroline a few weeks ago and not even getting to shake her hand to say hello for her headshot session at Café Nero in Belfast. It feels like an eternity since we got her session completed because of full time work demands but my Saturday night saw me fire up the laptop, while curled up in bed with the stupid lurgy.
Caroline got in touch by email to ask if I would photograph her headshots. We had a consultation over the phone due to social distancing and as much as I loved finding out about what she was after (hello noooooo white background!!! She’s a woman after my own heart!), it was not the same to getting our ice breaker over a brew. Instead, that’s what her session entailed. We met up at Café Nero’s on the Ormeau Road and went inside. While waiting in the queue to be served I was scouting the room to see what we had working for us. Textures and tones of a mixture of smooth and brick walls, bookshelves and a mixture of natural and ambient lighting and three seats it was perfect. Over our hot drinks we talked about Caroline’s business & getting to know her so she would be relaxed infront of the camera.
I love capturing a person while we are chatting, it get’s them used to the camera and I get to see them relax and trust me. Some of the “out take” images become my favourite because they are 100% natural and full of expressions Here you can see some of Caroline’s out takes. I love how expressive she is with her eyes!
I loved that Caroline wanted warmth in her photos, due to her profession as a counsellor. It shows that she has an openness and approachability, we both agreed that a white background would be too clinical and that’s not Caroline’s personality, you can see that as soon as you meet her. Social distancing meant we were kerbed on space and angles, but we worked with what we had and got what was required. Here’s a few more of the session. I’ve missed this. I loved every moment with Caroline and on editing her images.
