New headshots session

I love it when I get a message from Robert asking me if I can do his new head shots, not only do I get to catch up, but I’ve been doing his headshots for a few years now and it’s always great to know he trusts me enough to keep coming back.

He sent me message wanting his headshots planned over a few months so he can catpure his different looks.

So we started back in December last year as Robbie was coming to the end of his Santa’s role at the Armagh Planetarium. He wanted to capture both a casual look and in his full outfit as ‘Santa’, we got stuck in for his first session. As the photographs are for his portfolio, they needed to have the plain white background but as usual Robbie lets me add my own style of editing for a few that he can use for his own personal media platforms too.

His next session was in January this year. He had his Santa beard trimmed down and his hair cut and wore a grey suit with black shirt. A more gentleman vibe with this session to show another variant of his style. Personally, I got a little ‘Fraizer’ vibe from some of the images and I loved experimenting with different settings while editing to add a more cooler and muted hue to the white background.

Our next session followed in February. All traces of his Santa look gone. With a fresh buzz cut and all facial hair removed, Robbie arrived for a casual session with a hoodie and a his smile as asual. It’s strange to see him without even a goatee, as I’m so used to seeing him with some form of facial hair. It shows again his variation of looks and style for all types of acting roles.

At this point my home study had just been redecorated and as usual, when I wanna try anything new, if I ask Robbie, he’s happy to oblige and do a few test shots for me so I can see if I like the style, lighting and colours etc. As my home study has now been painted a deep navy blue, I knew that with the little natural lighting from the window, the images would be good in black and white, but as I’ve a few sessions coming up over the year, I’m contemplating a new blue/navy background for some portrait sessions. As test shots, here’s how they turned out:

I am such a sucker for a black and white image and Robbie’s sat done a test session before for me while it was with studio lighting. I loved how the natual light from the window and Robbie’s expressions came across on these images though. From the casting shadows to his skin texture. There’s a slight halo of backlighting on a few too and their catch light of the window in his eye. These won’t be used for his acting portfolio but they’re part of his session’s set as a thank you for going that extra mile for me on the session. I think the navy backgroud for the new gym sessions in Septembr will be ordered because I’m kinda loving the tones you get when editing either in colour or how much the face of your subject is enchanced and becomes a full focus point of the image when edited in black and white.

I’m looking forward to our next sessions over the next few months so keep an eye on the blog, which won’t be neglected so badly in the future!

Hope you all had a lovely Easter Break!
